An adventure on a long weekend expedition lead to the hometown of Confucius and the location of China's most famous and holiest mountain Tai Shan. Climbing Tai Shan is one of the more interesting and surprisingly hard climbs I have done. The most amazing thing about the mountain is that it is the most climbed peak in the work with uncounted numbers of visitors a year (everyone from little kids to grandparents ascend this mountain). In addition it is more then 6,660 stairs to the top with approx 3,400 ft in elevation gain (some time ago countless backs were broken in the construction of this massive staircase to the top). Many emperors and well-known people have climbed this mountain; it was at the top when Confucius said "the world is small" and Mao Zedong stated "the East is red".
